U.K. Docudrama Recounts Famous Political Exchange

Email share

In 1989, two old friends, the “much-feared inquisitor” Brian Walden and “Iron Lady" Margaret Thatcher, came together for their last-ever TV interview; little did they realize they were about to embark on one of the most famous political exchanges of all time. The tense, two-part docudrama premieres Sunday, October 5.

Actors Steve Coogan, as politician-turned-journalist Brian Walden, and Harriet Walter, as Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, helm Brian and Maggie, which recounts the end of a political era and a long-term friendship.

The film tensely reconstructs the seismic London Weekend Television interview that reshaped national opinion and signaled the end of Thatcher’s premiership. Brian and Margaret never spoke again after their final encounter.

Sundays, October 5 and 12, at 7 pm on Nine PBS and livestream.
