What’s next for Nine? More voices. More stories. More impact. A reimagined home for public television in St. Louis. And it’s all happening thanks to our community.
Catapulted by a historic series of investments (read more below!), we are launching a new era for Nine PBS and for St. Louis. Here’s what’s next:
- Strengthening community storytelling by inviting media partners to the table to widen our reach and share even more voices that reflect the diversity of our region.
- Expanding our early education work, doubling the number of learners we support over the next three years through broadcast, digital and on-the-ground efforts.
- Convening more leaders and neighbors to spark solutions, strengthen community connections and inspire content.
- Reimagining our headquarters into a state-of-the-art community public media center that affirms St. Louis as a place where stories spark connection and change.
This is an investment in our neighbors, our future, and the stories that connect us all. And you can be a part of it!

FAQs
A: No. These gifts are investments in St. Louis and will enable Nine PBS to meet the growing needs of our community, expand our impact, and transform our headquarters into a welcoming space designed for this vital work. These remarkable gifts are part of a fundraising effort, separate from our annual operating budget. While we currently do not receive federal funding, we carefully planned for this possibility and remain financially strong, which allows us to launch this effort while keeping our regular operations healthy.
A: Our space was built 28 years ago as a traditional broadcast center and hasn’t had major upgrades since. But today, Nine PBS is much more than a television station. This renovation will modernize our infrastructure, technology, and spaces to serve as a 21st-century community media hub — welcoming, accessible, and built for both today’s opportunities and tomorrow’s challenges.
Public television also plays a vital role in public safety. Nine PBS provides the backbone for broadcast emergency alerts and ensures Wireless Emergency Alerts reach our region without interruption — even during severe storms or in areas with unreliable internet.
A: Our renovation project is expected to begin in late 2026. During construction, our team will relocate to a temporary space to continue working and producing the content that our community enjoys! While the Donnybrook set may look a little different and our events may pop up in new neighborhoods, we promise we won’t miss a beat and will continue to show up for our community like always!
A: Nine PBS will continue to carry your favorite local and national programs—from Living St. Louis and Donnybrook to Masterpiece and Finding Your Roots—both on air and online throughout construction so you won’t see any interruption.
A: Once construction begins, we expect the project to take anywhere from 12-18 months. Make sure you subscribe to our newsletters for renovation news, and keep an eye out for fun construction video updates as the project progresses!
A: Listening to our community and bringing people together is at the heart of our work because we believe that’s how our region truly flourishes. These conversations surface the issues that matter most, guide how we tell St. Louis’s story, and inspire content that unites people, even around difficult topics that can lead to solutions. This campaign will give us the resources to regularly convene those most impacted by our region’s challenges — from caregivers, students, and educators to business leaders, elected officials, nonprofits, and neighbors. By working closely with trusted partners, we can elevate solutions and spark real change for our region.
A: By serving as a trusted partner for educators and caregivers, our goals are to increase third-grade literacy, increase school readiness, and increase the ways in which caring adults can help the children of our region thrive. These investments will enable us to deepen and expand our in-person and virtual programs to improve educational outcomes for young learners. We will also be able to serve an additional 25,000 children, including Spanish-speaking families and those in rural areas, using PBS KIDS media, curricula, on-the-ground efforts and resources to better prepare kids for school and life.
