A Message from Amy Shaw
I speak for the entire team at Nine PBS when I say, “Thank you.” Your support over the past few months, as we faced the fight for our federal funding, has meant the world to us.
Unfortunately, despite extraordinary advocacy from viewers like you across the country, Congress has passed the Rescissions Act, which eliminates federal funding for public media stations like Nine PBS.
This was not the outcome we hoped for and fought for. However, Nine PBS’s commitment to serve the St. Louis region remains stronger than ever.
So, what’s next?
This vote marks a pivotal moment for public media. For Nine PBS, it means a loss of 13% of our annual budget or $1.8 million—this fiscal year alone. That loss will be felt, so your financial support is critical. This moment isn’t just about filling a funding gap; it’s about building a more durable financial foundation so we can continue serving St. Louis for generations to come.
If you are not a member, now would be a good time to support us.
The fight for federal support continues. Public media advocates are already in conversation with members of Congress about restoring funding in next year’s budget, which begins October 1.
In the meantime, we’re not going anywhere. There is nothing more American than PBS, and there’s nothing more St. Louis than Channel 9.
Thank you for standing with us. We look forward to serving you for many years to come.
Best,
Amy Shaw
