The Long Wait for Psychiatric Treatment for Missourians Behind Bars

Hundreds of individuals have been found incompetent to stand trial in Missouri and require court-ordered mental health treatment. Due to the lack of capacity in the state for that treatment, the average wait time for those people in jail has increased to 14 months. There are 430 Missourians in jails waiting to be moved to state psychiatric hospitals, up from around 300 at this time last year, according to reporting by the Missouri Independent

The Setbacks of St. Louis Public Schools

The start of the SLPS 2024-25 school year was a chaotic one for many families who rely on district transportation to get their children to and from classes. The transportation crisis led to revelations about irregularities in leadership hirings, pay increases, use of district funds and a lack of oversight of a superintendent.

On November 5, 2024, Missourians vote on whether the state should legalize abortion before a fetus is viable outside the womb. Activists on both sides of the issue agree on one thing: even if the measure passes, this issue is not going away.
